Outsourcing:

            Outsourcing was my topic choice, and it was pretty interesting me and my group researched the reasons behind outsourcing and what companies participate in it. We gained a lot of knowledge about it through our research and the most valuable thing I learned was companies outsource to save money and eliminate health benefits, also there is an estimated 92 billion dollars in untaxed revenue in off shore accounts owned by these big companies. As we gathered all of our info we put together a google doc and posted it on our blog for the class to see and get info from if need be. The doc contained company names, the definition of our topic, the most popular outsourcing countries and companies etc.  I learned the jobs that get outsourced the most are call center and manufacturing jobs, which was interesting because a call center job was my last job. Outsourcing affects the economy but from a business aspect it the best thing to do, it saves money and time which it a companies main focus. Outsourcing seems simple but a lot of variables come into play with the whole process. The targeted customer, actual product etc. not only manufacturing jobs are outsourced believe it or not, but food is actually outsourced as well from bread to vegetables. Outsourcing opened my eyes to a lot of things. Before I thought the government was responsible for loss of jobs and things of that nature but outsourcing affects the economy just as much and I didn’t even realize it. it takes money from the state and somewhat shifts it to another country leaving no money to keep the economy stable. 

Midterm Process

Midterm Process.

Group midterms are a irritating process especially if the assignment is an essay. Essays are meant for you to express how u feel personally and I realized that after working in a group. Its hard working in a group to think of a thesis let alone the whole essay. Not everyone thinks like you or have the same views not to mention the same schedule. I like to get my stuff done but your partner may not have the time so you have to wait til they get the time in order to finish the paper, then once they get the time you may have to change parts of what you originally had just so it can flow together and that’s annoying. 

But anyway, the route we took was dividing the topics up. Since we had six topics each of us took 2 and researched the topics as much as possible. I originally wrote the intro but we later made a new intro to fit everyone’s portion so it could flow correctly. We met up a couple times and used google docs to keep up with each others process. I feel it was a successful process but I would have only worked with 2 people in a group, 3 brains or more in an essay gives to much room for unessicary comments and suggestions. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to start the essay should we do our own parts then do the intro? Or vise versa. 

O'reilly Response

Since the beginning of time America has been controlled by the top tier of its citizens. Rules and regulations have been set to protect the top tier from taxes and other laws; it’s safe to say they live in another world within the world. Republicans with high political power try to disregard economic issues surrounding the lower class by blaming it on social issues with the intent to avoid the transformation of America. It’s no secret this country has a problem with honesty, responsibility and owning up to its actions, the middle class is suffering more than ever in 2013 due to the market crash, loss of jobs, bank bailouts etc. all those things solely affect the poor and middle class directly with an increase in taxes; but why are the people who make and own the least expected to save the cash cows of America? Especially since 9% of them are substance abusers. Rich pay the least and 1 out of 4 giant corporations pay nearly nothing in taxes every year, on top of that they pay slave wages to their employees. Anyone with a brain knows economic and social issues go hand in hand. Bill O’reilly argued 15% of the population fall below the poverty line, and 9% of them are substance abusers, whether that’s true or not one must evaluate the living situation of those people. No jobs equal no money, & no money equal increase in crime, which is fairly surrounded by substances and substance abusers. America’s favorite cover-up is trying to make it seem as if they do things for the well-being of the country, but what about the people of the country? Asking for “living” wages isn’t an outrageous request, especially since some of these companies are known for making millions and for some billions of dollars per year. Charging a higher tax rate to the people of the top tier is a debate that has been going on for years but no change has yet to come. Drugs are coping mechanisms and true indeed poor choices, but people with political power are the biggest and most addicted substance abusers, passing selfish laws that only benefit the people of their community, finding and creating loopholes within the judicial system to exclude themselves from prosecution. When Cornell West made the statement about investigating the bankers on Wall Street O’reilly immediately jumped back to a legal standpoint and claimed there was no evidence of illegal activity, knowing there could never be any evidence without an investigation, yet there are thousands of people protesting against what he claim is right; and those same people are being arrested for speaking up for what’s being done right in front of their eyes. Corporate America is driving this ship and they should be to ones responsible for keeping it afloat
